Jay Shaw, deputy chief of emergency management in Winnipeg, said on Friday that employers should allow employees to work from home as much as possible to reduce the risk of a pandemic. Many of the city’s employees are currently working from home, he said.
âWe are committed to protecting our employees throughout this pandemic and have equipped as many employees as possible to work from home where it makes sense for the operations of this department,â he said. âThe City has had approximately 1,800 employees working remotely over the past 16 months. Due to the nature of the services provided by the City, this option is not available to the vast majority of our employees. “
Shaw said the city will conduct a management review to see if more of the city’s employees can work from home, adding that there may be an opportunity to deploy additional technology solutions.
âWe always look through the lens of continuous improvement,â he said. âEighteen hundred people working from home out of 10,000 while the majority of these employees are frontline providers who do not have this capacity, so we would like to thank our frontline workers who do not have this capacity. to work from home. â
CITY’S RECRUITMENT FACILITIES REMAIN CLOSED
Shaw said outdoor pools, wading pools and wading pools will remain closed in addition to city recreation facilities, adding that community service ambassadors continue to deploy to Assiniboine Park, St. Vital Park and Kildonan Park. From May 19 to 25, the ambassadors had approximately 2,250 interactions with park users. Of the interactions, 35 required the intervention of enforcement officers – 98% of those interactions were positive, Shaw said.
