Ruby Continues European Expansion of Sleep-Focused Hotels
Following the opening of âlean luxuryâ hotels in London and Zurich, the German brand Ruby will debut at another property in Florence in 2023. Jenny Southan reports
After the opening of Ruby Lucy London in January 2020 and Ruby Zurich Mimi in October 2021, Ruby Group announced the arrival of a new hotel in Florence in the third quarter of 2023. (The brand also has hotels in Dussedorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich and Vienna.)
Located in Piazza della Libertà , in the northern part of the historic center, the 118-room hotel is built in a historic 19th-century building, offering exceptionally high ceilings, allowing some rooms to be designed as maisonettes (a first for Ruby). The property will also have a 300 m² Ruby Workspace, ideal for digital nomads.
Although it is a relatively âno-frillsâ brand, Ruby has invested a lot in giving its customers a great night’s sleep. Under the guidance of sleep science experts, all rooms are equipped with: 12-inch-deep pocket sprung mattresses; extra long double beds; high-quality, ultra-light and hypoallergenic duvets; Blackout curtains; adjustable lighting and soundproofing.Ruby hotels additionally have 24-hour bars that also serve as breakfast rooms in the morning, free snacks and tea in the kitchen, and automatic check-in via a tablet. Ruby says, âWe set out to create the best of both worlds: hotels with style and substance, but none of those expensive extras. “Julian Mörs, Group Development Director at Ruby, said: âWe are very happy to enter the Italian market with this great project and to bring our Lean Luxury philosophy to Southern Europe.
âBy designing and building modularly, further centralizing and systematically automating behind the scenes, we make luxurious and unique hotel experiences affordable for our guests, while creating a leaner and more adaptable cost structure, which means in turn less risk for our real estate partners. Such advantages set us apart from other competitors and support our development activities, especially in unpredictable times. “
Founded in 2013, the Ruby Group currently operates 12 Ruby hotels, with 19 more under construction or in the planning phase. In addition to opening new properties in Europe, Ruby is expanding in Asia with a Ruby Asia joint venture, founded in 2018. Ruby also offers Ruby workspaces in Munich, Hamburg and Düsseldorf.
