Recording with Dubrovnik Digital Nomads-in-Residence – Interview with Vanessa Anderson
May 22, 2021 – We met another digital nomad in Dubrovnik and his career is not what you would expect from someone working remotely. Meet Vanessa Anderson!
Vanessa Anderson is a digital nomad and a lawyer. Two things that hardly seem compatible. Yet she makes it work. COVID-19 has changed the way she and her colleagues do their jobs and it has made it possible to be a digital nomadic lawyer. She knows Croatia well having been here before and running a travel website Balkan eyes specialized in this region. When she heard about the Dubrovnik Digital Nomads-in-Residence program, she applied. Originally she narrowly missed the opportunity to join the program, but due to a few last minute changes we have to see her in Dubrovnik, joining the other digital nomads in the group. Vanessa is originally from Portland, Oregon, and is now enjoying her experience working and living in Dubrovnik.
The Dubrovnik Digital Nomads-in-Residence program is a creation of Saltwater Nomads in partnership with Total Croatia News. The program is a collaboration between the city of Dubrovnik and the global digital nomadic community it hosts, all with the invaluable assistance of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board. The DNiR program produces interesting and valuable results that could have a real impact on the local community
In our short video, we asked Vanessa about her experience with Dubrovnik. Regardless of the fact that she has visited this area several times, this is her first experience working in the city. It changed his view of the city.
“Now I’ve been here longer and that made me look outside the walls as well. Before, I had done more tourist things. You know the walls are beautiful and I love to walk around, but also seeing other neighborhoods really broadened my vision of Dubrovnik.
She finds it easy to work here after adapting her job to the constant travel.
“My practice is mostly online, so I don’t carry document binders, which is essential for being a digital nomad. I can talk to my clients by phone, on Zoom. With the pandemic, it is more expected to turn out this way. Right now, court hearings are still being done on Zoom as well, so my presence is not required in Portland.
Be sure to check out Vanessa’s full interview below and listen to her tips on making Dubrovnik a friendly place for digital nomads.
