Summary of Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this advertisement, 05/04/2022. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. English Proficiency: Caseworkers must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j. Qualifications for GS-0185 Social Worker: Education – Master of Social Work (MSW) (including Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW), Master of Social Services Administration (MSSA), Master of Social Work (MSS), Masters in Social Science Administration (MSA) and Master of Social Welfare) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Licensure – You must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the advanced practice level that included an ASWB advanced generalist or clinical exam, unless they are entitled acquired by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical exam for advanced practice). May have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined course of study/curriculum and an internship or equivalent supervised work experience in a specialty . (Documentation required with your application). Exception. VHA may waive the licensing or certification requirement for individuals who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensing/certification exams. This exception only applies to the GS-9 level. For GS-11 and above, the candidate must be licensed or certified. A license must be obtained within 36 months of appointment. Experience – Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practical skills and judgment. At least two years should be in a specialized area of social work practice. May have a certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/program of study and internship, or equivalent supervised work experience. Advanced practical level. Advanced Practice Level is defined as the ability to provide independent, expert clinical case management and psychosocial services in a specialized area of practice to Veterans who are prone to severe and severe crises, may lack family and community support , may have poor self-monitoring, may often not comply with instructions and treatment, or may have major deficits in coping skills and require ongoing professional psychological support. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities. In addition to the above experience, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other government agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services. (b) Competence in independently conducting psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other backgrounds. (c) Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures (i.e. traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology) to formulate a treatment plan. , medical and social to achieve treatment goals. (e) Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers, graduate social work students and other staff on the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial issues on health care and the adherence to treatment. Qualifications for Psychologist GS-0180: Educational Requirements – You must have a doctorate in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) upon completion of the program. The specialty area of the degree should be consistent with the mission for which the candidate is to be employed. OR, hold a doctorate in any field of psychology and, in addition, have successfully completed a respecialization program that meets the following two conditions: a) the respecialization program must be completed in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program; and b) the specialty in which you were retrained corresponds to the assignment for which you are applying; OR, have a doctorate awarded between 1951 and 1978 by a regionally accredited institution, with a thesis primarily of a psychological nature.
Internship Requirement – You must have successfully completed a professional psychology internship program approved by the APA or CPA at the time of program completion that is relevant to the assignment for which the candidate is to be employed; OR, new VHA Psychology Internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable to meet the internship requirements, provided such programs have been sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for the psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time the person was an intern; OR, VHA institutions that offered full-time, one-year pre-doctoral fellowships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered acceptable to meet the fellowship requirement; OR, applicants who have completed an internship that was not accredited by the APA or CPA at the time of program completion may be considered eligible for hire only if they are currently certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area compatible with the assignment for which the candidate is to be engaged. License: Applicants must hold a full, current, and unlimited license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a state, territory, or the Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities. In addition to the above experience, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: 1. Knowledge and ability to apply professional psychological treatments to all patient populations.
2. Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to occupational psychology and behavioral health.
3. Familiarity with clinical research literature.
Physical Requirements: Light weight carrying (less than 15 lbs); Use of fingers; Walk & Stand (1-2 hours); Driving a motor vehicle; Both eyes are required; depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors and color shades; Emotional and mental stability; Hearing (authorized assistance); working with psychiatric patients with behavioral problems; work with patients with drug and alcohol problems. Environmental factors include dust, fumes, exposure to pet dander and overhead light; working alone and with others, overhead light, scents of various houses and individuals; exposure to a shared office space that requires the ability to concentrate with some distraction.
